Bloggers and columnists have been spilling ink for a while now on the often inconvenient location of hotel spas. Taking the hotel’s public lift dressed in fluffy robe and slippers may make you feel uncomfortable, and the alternative of getting fully dressed and made-up straight after a relaxing treatment is equally unappealing for some. Westin Hotels have rolled out an in-room spa service in dozens of their hotels across the globe. After booking, a spa basket arrives in the room containing oils, scents and even a background music CD. Then massages and facials are given on a specially-designed portable bed. But the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids (USA) goes one better with the Suite Spa. This ‘spa-on-wheels’ conveniently holds all the materials a beauty technician needs to carry out treatments ranging from facials to mani-pedis and wraps. Vickie Bennet, the creator of the Suite Spa, says her invention is taking off fast and even local hospitals are interested in it. For hoteliers put off by the huge outlay of an in-house spa, investing in a Suite Spa or similar programme could be the way to pamper prospective clients. |
