The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore has announced the opening of Berthold Delikatessen and Frieda Restaurant at the Arcade at The Capitol Kempinski.

Inspired by Kempinski founder Berthold Kempinski and his daughter, Frieda – both visionary hoteliers who set the foundation for luxury hospitality – each space is uniquely designed to reflect the visual and architectural heritage of the late 19th century and presents a contemporary take on traditional German delis and “Bräuhauses”, incorporating European flair, regionally sourced ingredients and local flavours.

Berthold Delikatessen – Contemporary Classics

Berthold Delikatessen brings the best of traditional German delicatessen and classic European-style cafés under one roof. Located on the ground floor of the Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski, Berthold Delikatessen allows guests the option of sitting within the main dining space, in the alfresco area, or at the mezzanine level, perfect for people-watching during a light lunch. An assortment of sandwiches and salads are available for dining in – the Berthold’s signature Dark Rye Sourdough with Pastrami Ham, Charcoaled Brioche with Chicken or Smoked Salmon, or the healthy choice of Classic Waldorf Salad with Walnut, Beetroot Salad, or Swabian Potato Salad. Berthold Delikatessen will be one of only a handful of local bakeries to offer an extensive daily selection of German-style breads, rolls and pastries, including the classic Bretzel, Bauernbrot, or farmer’s bread, and the braided Hefezopf. A selection of quiches, pies and cakes is also available to complete the deli experience. Paired with gourmet coffee of either the Andraschko German blend or local Berthold blend, these treats are ideal for afternoon tea or for take home enjoyment.

Frieda – Authentic German cuisine with a modern twist

Frieda draws inspiration from its namesake, who was warmhearted, generous and the very embodiment of hospitality – creating a home from home experience, where guests could feel a sense of place and belonging no matter how far they travelled. It is her spirit of warmth that permeates the restaurant with its three distinct spaces designed to serve every guests’ needs.

Right at the heart of the restaurant is Frieda’s Day Bar. Inspired by Berlin’s urban style, it is perfect for enjoying Abendbrot, a casual evening meal, with a pint of ice-cold German beer on tap. A cosy, intimate dining experience awaits at Frieda’s Dining Room, and the enchanting, botanical-themed Frieda’s Garden sets the stage and provides for a romantic evening.

The menu at Frieda is a reinterpretation of traditional German cuisine with Austrian influences. For starters, choose from a cold cut platter with Gruyere Cheese, Mixed Pickles, Obatzda, Red Radish and Pretzel or a Frieda’s Salad with seasonal organic lettuce, cherry tomatoes, brined beetroot, and pumpkin seeds, with the option to add on goat cheese caramelised with honey. To satisfy the comfort food craving, the traditional beef broth with hearty semolina dumplings and pancake or Grossmutter’s Kartoffelsuppe, a warm potato and leek soup, are also available. For the mains, diners can look forward to the traditional Wiener Schnitzel, a breaded veal cutlet pan-fried to perfection, served with potato salad and a refreshing Gurkensalat of thinly sliced cucumbers, sour cream and aromatic dill and parsley or the Pan-Fried Rainbow Trout with baby spinach and parsley potatoes. A vegetarian option will be the Pretzel Dumplings with creamy mushroom ragout and scallions.

Dessert lovers will adore the Griessflammerie, semolina pudding with a tart cherry compote, the Bismarck, a fluffy, crispy pancake served with a drizzle of maple syrup, or the Viennese Apple Fritters – slices of apples topped with cinnamon and dusted with granulated sugar for a touch of extra sweetness.
