Eight Sleep, the world’s first sleep fitness company, unveiled its latest cutting-edge innovation: the Pod, a high-tech bed designed specifically to help individuals achieve optimal sleep fitness. The Pod is the first bed to combine dynamic temperature regulation, biometric tracking, smart home integrations and sleep coaching to deliver a total solution for enhanced rest and recovery.
Its most groundbreaking feature, dynamic temperature, includes artificial intelligence that learns sleep habits and adjusts the temperature in bed automatically. The feature was built using data and knowledge accumulated over years as an industry leader, including more than 43 million hours of tracked sleep and a body of circadian rhythm research
The launch of the Pod places Eight Sleep at the forefront of a growing movement around sleep as a major component of health and wellness, on par with exercise and nutrition in terms of its impact on overall life quality. “Sleep fitness is a state of elevated well being fueled by quality sleep,” shared Matteo Franceschetti, Co-founder and CEO of Eight Sleep. “The Pod makes us the first company to tackle all of the issues that prevent a good night’s sleep and deliver optimal sleep fitness. We’ve come up with a solution that is seamlessly integrated into the bed, and learns and adjusts based on circadian cycle to make sure you’re never too hot or too cold at night.”
The Pod makes the practice of sleeping cool, recommended by experts and supported by research, available in consumers’ beds for the first time. Among the many benefits associated with a cooler nighttime environment, are that it helps individuals to fall asleep faster, spend more time in deep sleep and reduces sleep interruptions throughout the night. In addition, the body’s circadian cycle includes internal temperature fluctuations that make a cool environment optimal for sleeping. The Pod’s dynamic temperature is able to react to individual sleepers intelligently however, the range can also be controlled manually by users, between 55 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit. What’s more, users are able to leverage temperature to wake up more naturally and without disturbing their sleeping partner using a thermo alarm that begins to gradually cool the bed minutes prior to the set wake-up time.
Beyond as a means to offer dynamic temperature in bed, Eight Sleep’s proprietary AI-engine also tracks and monitors sleep health. Users can interact with an AI-powered sleep coach that analyzes more than a dozen physiological and environmental factors captured by the Pod’s advanced biometric tracking and shares insights, patterns and personalized sleep tips. Factors such as sleep duration, quality and consistency are used to calculate a personalized sleep fitness score, which just as BMI measures healthy body fat, serves as an indicator of sleep health and makes it easy to see progress over time. The Pod also merges into your connected life through smart home integrations with any WiFi enabled device, like Nest, Philip Hue Lights or Amazon Alexa. All features can be easily managed from any Android or iOS device.
“The most impressive new technologies for improving sleep and enabling sleep research are the instrumented beds being developed by Eight Sleep,” explains Stanford University biology professor and member of Eight Sleep’s Scientific Advisory Board Dr. Craig Heller, PhD. “Their goal of modifying thermal environment using in-home data is a huge opportunity to advance sleep science.” Dr. Heller and others on the company’s Scientific Advisory Board, including world-class doctors and researchers from Harvard, UPenn, Mount Sinai and Yale have been crucial in the development of the Pod over the last year and a half.
