Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur will accommodate Aziamendi 88, Malaysia’s first pop-up restaurant run by a three Michelin-star chef, from 22 July to 31 October 2015. Spain’s renowned celebrity chef, Eneko Atxa, will take up residency at the Mandarin Grill (pictured above) with a team of highly trained chefs, expert sommeliers and waiters from his Aziamendi restaurant in Thailand. For 88 days they will treat guests to an authentic gastronomic journey through northern Spain, highlighting Atxa’s celebrated signature dishes.

Recognised as a world top 20 restaurant by San Pellegrino, Azurmendi in Bilbao, in Atxa’s native Basque country, was opened by the multiple award-winning chef in 2005 as his first venture, since when it has become the only three Michelin-star establishment in the Bay of Biscay. He opened Aziamendi at ultra-luxurious Iniala Beach House, near Phuket, in 2013.

Fusing high art with haute cuisine and helping those in need, Aziamendi 88 will offer guests art and charity in addition to Basque-rooted fine cuisine. Contemporary art curated by Lim Wei Ling, founder of the Wei-Ling Gallery, Malaysia’s largest platform for local artists, will be shown at the restaurant, with all pieces available for purchase by diners.

Five percent of revenue generated at Aziamendi 88 will be donated to local charity, United Voice Malaysia, a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities, and Bali-based Inspirasia Foundation, which supports non-profit societies.
